Itinerary

Once you arrive in Nepal for the Kailash Saga Dawa Festival Tour and land in Kathmandu International Airport(TIA) you will proceed for the Nepal Visa. It takes a few minutes to get the visa after you submit the document and pay the certain fee. Then after getting a stamp on your passport you will meet our staff from the Namaste Nepal who are waiting for you to pick up.

Then once you meet we will put you Kata( given to arriving guests it symbolizes welcome) and keeping your language in our private vehicle you will be escorted to the hotel that we have booked for you.

Day 1/4th June 2025: Kathmandu Sightseeing (Visa Application Submit)
After having a delicious breakfast early in the morning we kindly request you to visit our office before 10am so that we will proceed with your visa application. While visiting our office please ensure you bring all the required documents, including your passport, a passport-sized photo, and, if available, your insurance details. You need to handover your passport inorder to get the visa from the embassy.

We will also provide you with a short brief about the Kailash Saga Dawa festival tour. If you have any questions or queries then you can ask us freely. We’re here to help make your experience smooth and enjoyable!

Additionally, we will also complete some legal paperwork during your visit to our office. If you haven’t already cleared the remaining balance for the Saga Dawa festival Tour Package, we kindly request you to settle it during this time. Once all the formalities are complete, you can enjoy the rest of your day while your visa is being processed.

On this day you can roam around the city for Kathmandu sightseeing. We highly recommend you to visit iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, Patan Durbar Square, and the historic city of Bhaktapur.

Each of these places has its own importance and offers the opportunity to understand about Nepali culture, art, history and to have memorable experiences.

 

Note! Please take note that you can also process for a Tibet visa if you arrive early on the first day.

Today your visa will be ready and you can visit our office to grab your passport. After getting your passport you can prepare for tomorrow’s journey by packing everything.

You will ride early in the morning so make your backpack ready today. If you need to buy anything or want to do some last minute purchase you can do it in the streets of Thamel.

Here you can purchase everything that is required for a tour like down jacket, trekking shoes, sleeping bag , trekking poles etc. You can also exchange some Tibetan currency for your convenience during the trip.

Note: While packing your backpack we suggest you not to over. Packing your luggage around 10- 15 is enough for this tour. If you have an extra bag then you can either leave in the hotel that you are staying or leave in our office.

And one more thing, get ready early in the morning as you will leave probably around 6-7am.

Early in the morning our staff will be there to pick you from the hotel and keeping all your luggage in the vehicle we will start driving toward the Syabrubesi or Timure( depending upon the traffic and time). The road distance from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi is around 122 km( 75.81 miles).

Syabrubesi is a great place to stay before heading for Saga Dawa Festival Tour as it is the main gateway for several renowned trekking and climbing destinations.

You can find manu trekkers and climbers staying in the local tea house preparing for their adventurous journey.

Popular adventures starting from Syabrubesi include the Langtang Valley Trek, known for its stunning Himalayan views; the cultural Tamang Heritage Trail; the spiritually significant Gosaikunda Trek; and the challenging Langtang Lirung Expedition for climbers.

Timure is around 10 km far from Syabrubesi and it takes around 1 hour to reach from Syabrubesi. Timmur is the historical place of Nepal as it is located near the China-Nepal border and the main highlights of this place is Rasuwagadhi Fort. If time allows then you can visit this historical place.

Note: Today’s journey will be smooth, as the road conditions from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi are suitable for driving. However, it will be a long drive, so make sure to prepare accordingly. Pack some snacks and a water bottle to stay refreshed throughout the trip.

Wear comfortable clothing, and don’t forget essential items such as a mask, sunglasses, and a light, windproof jacket to stay protected and comfortable during the ride.

Today you will leave Nepal through the border of Rasuwagadhi. From Sybrusbesi/Timur it takes only half an hour to one hour to reach Rasuwagadhi.

Scenic drive from on the mountain road with the mesmerizing view of lush green forests, rugged landscapes, and flowing rivers will make you speechless. Rasuwagadhi is the last point in Nepal which is located at the altitude of 1,815m.

This place is famous for the traders because it is the trade route between Nepal and China. This little border town is rich in history and is encircled by rocky landscapes and high hillsides.

You can tour the historic Rasuwagadhi Fort, which was a frontier location during the Gurkha Kingdom, for a little walk if you have the time.

Then completing the necessary formalities we will enter Tibet once your immigration is complete. Then you’ll walk through the Friendship Bridge into Tibet where your Tibetan guide will be waiting for you in a private vehicle.

After that you will ride in Tibetan soil to reach Kyirong (also known as Gyirong) which is situated at a higher altitude of 2,700m. Riding for around 1-2 hours you will reach Kyirong and on the way you can catch the glimpse of sacred Mount Shishapangma, one of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks. Then you spend the night in the guest house.

Early in the morning after having breakfast we will leave Kyirong town for a full day adventure. Driving toward the north and gradually leaving the greenery you will ascend toward the rugged terrain of the Tibetan Plateau.

Driving in the blue sky and spotting the grazing yaks at the high altitude and spectacular views of gently rolling wilderness will leave you in awe. Riding for almost 4 hours you will reach Pelaku Lake which is situated at the altitude of 4,592m.

Watching the clear lake and the reflection of the surrounding mountain range is the main highlight of today’s journey. Make sure to capture enough photos and immerse in the beauty of the region before moving forward.

We will reach the 4,450-meter-high Dzongba after roughly two hours of ride. You’ll travel through tiny, isolated communities where Tibetan nomads lead tranquil, simple lives in close harmony with the natural world.

We will pause at Dzongba for lunch and take a quick break to refresh ourselves.

Then from Dzongba we will head toward the Paryang where we will stop for spend our night in the guest house. Riding for around 2-3 hours we will reach Paryang which is located at the altitude of 4,550m.

We will arrive at the Paryang early in the evening and after check in the guest house you can take a rest and later if you want you can explore around for the night view from this high altitude area.

Today is another wonderful day to enjoy the Kailash Mansarovar Tour, as we will visit Manasarovar Lake, one of the major attractions of this journey.

Leaving Paryang with your group we will drive toward Mansarovar Lake. Paryang to Mansarovar lake distance is around 270 km and it will take you around 4 hours to reach.

The journey is a mixture of spiritual wonder and peaceful wilderness. You will see nomadic herders caring for their flocks, grazing yaks, and wild Tibetan creatures like antelope and kiang (Tibetan wild ass) along the route.

Also watching streams, meandering rivers and mighty snow-capped peaks is equally fascinating.

After a 4-hour ride, you’ll reach the beautiful Manasarovar Lake, with its clear waters surrounded by the towering peaks of Mount Kailash and the Gurla Mandhata range.

Lake Mansarovar which is situated at the altitude of 4,590m is the highest freshwater lake in Tibet.

In this holy lake you can witness pilgrims praying, meditating, or collecting sacred water from the lake. We’ll drive around this holy lake, which is about 88 km all the way around.

The ride takes about 1–2 hours and lets you soak in its beauty. Manasarovar is a place of purification and devotion.

It is believed that even a glimpse of the lake can cleanse sins, and being there feels like a rare privilege. After circumambulating the holy Lake Mansarovar we will spend the night in a guest house which is near this lake.

After spending a wonderful night in Lake Mansarovar, now it’s time to move forward in our Saga Dawa festival journey.

After having the delicious meal in Lake Mansarovar we will proceed toward the Chiu Ghompa for the exploration.

This small but impressive monastery is situated atop a rocky hill with a view of the magnificent Manasarovar Lake. A haven of devotion and peacefulness, Chiu Gompa is more than just a sight to behold.

Its magical significance is increased by its alleged connections to the renowned Buddhist master Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava). Explore the historic corridors, which are embellished with magnificently painted paintings and prayer flags that rise in the wind.

Enjoy the magnificent panoramic views of Manasarovar Lake, the snow-capped summits of Mount Kailash, and Gurla Mandhata from the monastery. It’s a great place to meditate and connect with the spiritual aura of this holy area.

After exploring the Chiu Ghomps now we will move to the Darchen which is located at 4,575 meters. Darchen is just 35-40 kms away from Chiu Gompa. So riding for around 45 minutes of short drive we will reach Darchen.

Darchen is also known as the main gateway for the sacred Mt. Kailash. You will spend the night at the cozy guest house after you arrive in Darchen.

If you’re unsure about being able to complete the Kailash Kora on foot, this is the place to hire a horse or a porter. Keep in mind that once you leave Darchen, you won’t have another opportunity to arrange for these services.

Take a moment to consider your needs and make a practical choice before starting the trek. Please note, those who wish to use these services will need to cover the cost themselves.

On this special day, you’ll take a short but scenic drive from Darchen to Tarboche. Tarboche is approximately 13 km away from Darchen and the drive takes around 30–40 minutes.

From the window seat you can see the stunning views of the surrounding Tibetan Plateau.
You’ll pass through rolling hills, rugged terrain, and catch glimpses of prayer flags fluttering in the breeze—which is a sign of the region’s deep spirituality.

Also the majestic view of Mount Kailash comes into view which makes you feel like you are getting close to this mountain.

Once you Tarboche, you’ll step into the heart of the Saga Dawa Festival. This festival is one of the most vibrant and significant events in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar.

Held to honor the birth, enlightenment, and passing of Lord Buddha, the festival radiates energy and devotion. The main highlight here is the raising of the Tarpochen Flagpole, a massive pole adorned with countless prayer flags. The ceremony is hugely symbolic, representing good fortune and blessings for all beings.

Monks in their traditional robes chant prayers while locals and pilgrims gather to participate, bringing the atmosphere alive with spirituality.

You’ll witness a kaleidoscope of sights and sounds—pilgrims circumambulating the flagpole, people lighting incense, and the rhythmic beating of drums accompanying the chant of prayers.

It’s a deeply moving experience to see the community come together, all guided by faith and devotion.

From Tarboche, you’ll head back to Darchen, completing the return drive in about 30–40 minutes. The views along the way, with the soft light of the evening settling on the mountains and plains, offer a beautiful finish to the day.

Once back in Darchen, you can reflect on the events of the day and relax, surrounded by the spiritual energy of this sacred region.

Finally today is the day your Kailash Kora (circumambulation of Mount Kailash) begins. This trek is an exciting, challenging and sacred part of the pilgrimage.

Your day starts by taking a short drive from Darchen toward Tarboche. Darch to Tarboche is 13 km in distance and riding for about 30-40 you will reach Tarboche.

The drive itself offers breathtaking views of the Tibetan landscape and is actually eye-catching. You’ll witness snow-capped peaks and open valleys, with the flutter of prayer flags adding a spiritual touch to the scene.

Once you reach Tarboche you will start your first hike toward Diraphuk which is located at the altitude of 4,890 meters.

Today you will cover around 11-12 km and it takes about 5-6 hours to complete depending on your walking pace.

Every step feels incredibly satisfying because of the stunning views of Mount Kailash throughout the moderate route, which includes several modest ascents.

Important Tips for the Trek:

Hydration and Rest: Carry reusable water bottles and drink enough water to stay hydrated, as this can help prevent altitude sickness. Additionally, take short breaks to rest and acclimatize, which will help your body adjust to the altitude. Dress Comfortably: Wear appropriate dress to protect you from chilly temperature and only use good quality trekking shoes. Travel Light: Carry only essential items like water, snacks, medications, and an extra layer of clothing in your daypack to keep the burden light. Avail Support if Needed: If you anticipate any difficulty walking, make arrangements for a horse or porter in Darchen before starting the trek.Go Slow and Steady: Don’t rush. Walk at your own pace so that you will feel comfortable while trekking. It will also allow you to enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. Once you reach Diraphuk, you will see the stunning sight of Mount Kailash’s north face. It will make you speechless. This is also the best place to stop for reflection, offering prayers and to enjoy nature with spiritual vibes.

Today is one of the most challenging days of this entire Kailash Saga Dawa Festival Tour. It is because you will cross through the famous Dolma la pass.

It is the highest point on the Kailash Tour (5,660 meters). Today you will cover around 22 km which takes around 8–10 hours to complete today’s trek.

Your day starts by having breakfast early in the morning in the guest house and start walking by getting the blessing from Mount Kailash. The first portion of the journey is a gradual climb up to Dolma-La Pass.

Despite being exhausting, the journey is absolutely stunning, with the clean mountain air filling your lungs and breathtaking snow-covered peaks all around.

It takes both physical and spiritual strength to reach the Dolma-La Pass. There are countless prayer flags flying in the breeze, each carrying blessings and prayers, symbolizing the pass.

This location has great spiritual importance as a representation of overcoming life’s challenges and reaching enlightenment. Believe, pray, or simply immerse yourself in the sacredness of this holy place for a while.

The trail offers breathtaking views of Gauri Kund (Lake of Compassion), a sparkling emerald-green lake hidden in the Himalayas, as it descends steeply from Dolma-La Pass.

Many pilgrims stop to take in the beauty and significance of this lake, which is revered.

Because of the rocky and uneven terrain, while ascending from the Dolma La pass it can be quite difficult for you. So take your time to walk and walk carefully and slowly.

The walk becomes easier and shorter once you get close to the Dzutulphuk. After a strenuous day of hiking, you deserve a decent night’s sleep when you arrive at this sensational location of Dzutulphuk.

Important Tips for the Day:

  • Start Early: Start your journey before the sunrise so that you can pass the mountain pass( Dolma La Pass) before the weather turns harsh.

Today is the last day of your Kailash Kora.You will begin your journey from Dzutulphuk and travel roughly 6–7 kilometers to reach Mani Wall.

This section of the trail is easier and more relaxed compared to the previous day. On average it will take you 2–3 hours to reach.

You will pass through flat terrains which are adorned with prayer flags and stunning mountain views.

When you reach Mani Wall, you will see the intricately arranged stones carved with sacred mantras. It demonstrates the powerful sight of devotion and faith. At Mani Wall, you will complete the circumambulation of Mount Kailash.

Devotees believe that completing Kailash Kora means purifying their souls, washing away sins, and bringing good fortune.

After successfully completing the Kailash Kora with a sense of pride and achievement now it’s time for you to get back to the Darchen.

A driver will be waiting for you there. After that, you will first travel to Paryang, which is 4,550 meters above sea level. After a short break, you will continue our ride to Dzongba which is situated at an altitude of 4,450 meters.

Here you can notice a mix of barren beauty and stretches of green pastures. Finally, you’ll arrive at Saga at an altitude of 4,640 meters, where you’ll rest for the night.

It’s time to retrace your journey from the Mt. Kailash after enjoying Saga Dawa Festival Tour.

The road distance between Saga and Kyirong is around 160–170 kilometers and you will take a scenic drive from Saga to Kyirong which takes around 5–6 hours to reach.

En route you will find the transformation in the land. The barren land will turn now into greenery and the more crowded. Passing through small Tibetan villages while watching the far view of the snow-capped peaks and recalling the memories is fun.

Upon your arrival in Kyirong, you will observe the vibrant fusion of Nepalese and Tibetan cultures.
